We drive north to the majestic city of York. Home to a rich history, where you'll find the famous Gothic Minster, which dominates the city as one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe, and The Shambles, with its overhanging timber-framed houses, traditional shopfronts and an independent market found around the corner. Browse York's many shops, from high street favourites to quirky and independent boutiques, perhaps picking up an early sales bargain, or enjoy time in one of the excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants found nearby. From here, we continue to Whitby, where a warm welcome and Bucks Fizz await our arrival at the Royal Hotel.
This morning, we enjoy a scenic circular drive exploring the winter wonderland of the North York Moors, driving through Goathland, familiar as 'Aidensfield' in the TV series Heartbeat, and the vibrant market town of Pickering, where the tea rooms and shops have a gloriously vintage flavour. We return to the hotel for a cream tea this afternoon and have time to get ready ahead of tonight's celebrations. This evening, we begin with a drinks reception, followed by a fabulous New Year's Eve dinner with entertainment and a countdown to midnight!
Happy New Year! Enjoy a leisurely brunch and relax in the hotel or explore at your own pace; you'll have the opportunity for a bracing stroll around this ancient fishing port, famous for its connections with Bram Stoker, where he is said to have drawn inspiration for Dracula and where Captain James Cook, undertook his Merchant Navy apprenticeship in the town.<br />
We begin our homeward journey after breakfast, calling at the Victorian seaside resort of Scarborough, straddled between two majestic bays and dominated by an impressive headland.
From a stunning clifftop location, enjoy amazing views on all sides of the beaches, harbour, old town, abbey ruins, and headland. With Yorkshire-style hospitality, all rooms come with ensuite bathrooms.
