We head south, travelling to Torquay with rest stops along the way.
Known as Britain's Ocean City, Plymouth has a fascinating maritime history. We start the day with a cruise around Plymouth's famous harbour, from which you can take in Plymouth Hoe, Drake's Island, views of Mount Edgcumbe, Royal William Yard and one of the largest Naval Dockyards in Western Europe. Afterwards, you'll have a chance to explore maritime Plymouth on dry land, why not wander the Barbican's quaint cobbled quayside, the iconic Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse or visit the National Marine Aquarium, home to deepwater fish tanks? The highlight of our day sees us onboard a nostalgic steam journey on the multi-award-winning South Devon Railway. Travelling onboard heritage rolling stock, the line passes through some of Devon's most beautiful countryside whilst hugging the River Dart for most of this stunning valleyside journey from Buckfastleigh to Totnes.
Indulge in the freedom of a leisurely day in Torquay, an award-winning resort and the Jewel of the English Riviera. You'll find many year-round events and festivals, a myriad of attractions and an abundance of beautiful shops to explore. It's no wonder that Torquay is a popular destination and a quintessential British seaside resort. Today's trip includes a tour of the fabulous South Devon coast, popularly known as the English Riviera. We start in beautiful Brixham, one of the busiest fishing ports in the UK and home to some of the finest seafood and a colourful harbourside. Our next stop is the old town of Dartmouth, one of South Devon's most popular and enchanting towns, where you’ll find charming historic streets in a scenic riverside location. Today’s final visit is to Paignton, a colourful, traditional seaside resort famous for its mild climate, lively seafront and bustling pier.
After breakfast today, we return home.
