We experience a little bit of heaven in Devon this morning by climbing aboard one of the very last horse-drawn barges in the country today. On this journey in time down the Tiverton Canal, our skipper will share exciting stories and anecdotes throughout the canal, horses and the area's history. This afternoon, we visit Killerton House and Gardens, a Georgian country home with a beautiful year-round garden filled with rhododendrons, magnolias, and formal lawns, promising a visual treat for all.
Nestled beneath majestic red cliffs and green hills of the glorious Sid Valley, you'll have every opportunity to explore the lovely seaside town of Sidmouth in your own time today. Spend your day however you'd like, whether enjoying a leisurely walk-through of beautiful gardens, exploring Regency era history, visiting friendly seaside shops or exploring the red cliffs and clean sandy beaches of the Jurassic Coast.
After breakfast, we set off for the charming resort of Lyme Regis on Dorset's Jurassic Coast, affectionately known as the "Pearl of the Dorset Coast." Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the picturesque seafront before heading to The Cobb, the town's lively harbour, famed for its appearances in films such as The French Lieutenant's Woman and Jane Austen's Persuasion. Alternatively, wander into the quaint town centre, where you can indulge in a variety of culinary delights and browse an eclectic mix of independent shops at your leisure. After some free time, we also visit Seaton, where we include a ride on its unique tramway; operating on narrow-gauge heritage trams, our journey will travel alongside the River Exe Valley through two nature reserves and offers unrivalled views of the abundant wildlife!
After bidding farewell to our hosts, we also visit Sidmouth's renowned Donkey Sanctuary, home to hundreds of charming residents who have found their forever home. Lovingly cared for by the charity, they're ready and waiting to meet you. You'll also find award-winning gardens and scenic coastal paths to engaging exhibits before we continue our journey home.
Overlooking the English Channel, our well-appointed hotel is just a one-minute walk from the shops and restaurants of Sidmouth's Fore Street.
