This morning, we will embark on a journey to Athlone, a captivating historic town often referred to as the "Gateway to the West." As we stroll through its streets, why not explore the impressive Athlone Castle, which stands proudly overlooking the River Shannon? This afternoon, we return to our idyllic hotel; why not take the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing walk in the gardens, unwind in the sauna and steam rooms, or treat yourself to some pampering at the spa (bookable locally, subject to availability)? For those looking to explore the surrounding areas, a trip to nearby Mullingar, a traditional market town home to various shopping opportunities, or neighbouring Belvedere House Gardens are local highlights.
After an early start, we will head to Dublin to partake in the city's St. Patrick's Day celebrations, witness the world-famous parade, filled with colourful floats, lively music, and an array of performers showcasing the rich culture and heritage of Ireland! In addition to the festivities, Dublin offers a wealth of local attractions worth exploring. You might want to visit the Millennium Spire, an iconic landmark that towers over O'Connell Street, or take a stroll through the historic grounds of Trinity College, home to the breathtaking Book of Kells. For those interested in Ireland's most famous drink, the Guinness Storehouse provides a fascinating insight into the brewing process and the vibrant Temple Bar area, renowned for its lively atmosphere, traditional pubs, and eclectic art scene, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a day of celebrations.<br /><br />Dinner is not included at our hotel tonight to make the most of Dublin's St Patrick' Day celebrations.
After an enjoyable stay, we take an early afternoon ferry and return home.
