All aboard the most remarkable railway journey in the world, the Jacobite Steam Railway, and explores the majesty of Balmoral Castle, the beloved Highland home of the Royal Family.
This holiday operates under our Optimum Experience brand.
With elegant space-maximising interior design, our Optimum Experience vehicle offers incredible passenger comfort with a selection of fine tours and destinations to choose from. Our Optimum holiday packages include a wide range of excursions, events and admissions, accommodation in a minimum 3* hotel (unless otherwise stated) and, on all our European Holidays, a Skills Representative too! After boarding our coach, we travel up to our hotel in the Scottish Highlands.
Explore the vast castle grounds, formal gardens, and exhibitions before taking in the extravagant ballroom. We return to our hotel for an afternoon of leisure, where you can relax and enjoy the hotel's riverside location next to Old Packhorse Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands.
Explore the villages of the spectacular Cairngorms National Park, starting with a leisurely morning in Carrbridge. Our afternoon excursions see us travel to Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore, surrounded by towering mountains, sparkling lochs, and dense forests. We also include a breathtaking trip on the Cairngorm Mountain Railway, Scotland's only funicular railway and the highest in the UK, reaching the Ptarmigan building found over one-thousand meters above sea level.
After breakfast, we board the Jacobite Steam Railway to Mallaig, known as the 'Greatest Railway Journey in the World'. This section of the West Highland Line crosses the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct with panoramic views across Loch Shiel below; the famous Hogwarts Express also took this journey in the Harry Potter films too. Our journey takes us to Mallaig, a remote but busy fishing port home to stunning scenery and lots of fresh fish and chips. We will make the return journey by train later.
Filled with stunning memories, we travel home.
Established over three hundred years ago, the hotel has been run by the Watt family for the past four decades. It has been extensively refurbished and extended to provide modern accommodation while retaining its character.
