After this morning's early pick-ups, we depart for our channel crossing to Calais and onto the small Normandy coastal town of Ouistreham, where dinner is included at our hotel tonight. Afterwards, we recommend taking the opportunity to visit the 70th D-Day Anniversary Memorial on the nearby beachfront.<br /><br /><br />
We begin the day at the Caen Memorial Museum, where a self-guided tour will give you critical insight into key events of World War 2 and D-Day. This afternoon, we travel the short distance to Pegasus Bridge and the nearby Museum, which saw the brave 6th Airbourne division retake the bridge in the first action of D-Day. On our return journey, you'll enjoy a stop at the Ranville War Cemetery to pay our respects.<br /><br />
After meeting our experienced tour guide, we set off for the Normandy beaches (Sword, Juno & Gold), where the British troops landed eighty years ago. The day will also include stops at the British Normandy Memorial and Arromanche-les-Bains, where remnants of the famous Mulberry Harbour can still be seen to this day.<br />
After this monumental trip, we return home today.
The ibis Styles Ouistreham is a modern hotel by the sea, just a few hundred metres from the nearby beach. This centrally-located hotel has been recently renovated and is the ideal place to visit the WWII landing sites of D-Day.
