Lake Garda & the Dolomites with optional Venice

We continue the journey across the border into Italy, arriving in Riva del Garda this afternoon. Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome drink before our evening meal.

A leisurely start followed by an excursion on Lake Garda by ferry boat to Limone with some free time to explore the picturesque lakeside resort using for filming parts of James Bond Quantum of Solace. Once renowned for growing lemons, hence the name, you'll find the heart of the old town and the harbour, from where you can explore narrow lanes lined with shops, waterfront terraces and plenty of places to eat, before hopping on board the boat for the journey back to Riva.

A full day excursion takes us through the ancient Tenno Valley passing medieval villages and lush pastures towards the Dolomites, one of Europe's most spectacular mountain ranges with UNESCO World Heritage status, where towering peaks combine with luscious valleys and tranquil lakes. We travel through a number of quaint villages, en route to the real-life fairy tale village of Madonna di Campiglio, with it's cobbled streets, rustic mountain architecture frescoed with stories of local life and balconies adorned with brightly coloured flower boxes. From here we continue through the town of Cles to our other main stop in Molveno, in an exquisite alpine setting with it's beautiful 13th-century Church, framed by the stunning turquoise lake reflecting the peaks of the surrounding mountains.

We spend the day in Verona, forever associated with Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, but has much more to offer than the legendary balcony that lovers flock to from all over the world, with chic shops mixing with ancient charm in this romantic town. Don’t miss the impressive square – Piazza Bra – with its ornate fountains and delightful pavement cafes dominated by the magnificent Roman arena

Known as the City of Water, our day includes boat transfers into the city and a walking tour with a local guide. Explore the incredible architecture and history by visiting the splendid Piazza San Marco, the world-renowned Grand Canal thoroughfare, the Bridge of Sighs and the Palace of the Doges.

Today we explore the western shores of Lake Garda including Bardolino, well known for its wine made from the grapes grown on the surrounding hillsides. We also visit Sirmione, a beautifully-preserved town with an imposing turreted 13th-century castle and maze of narrow, cobbled streets set on a picturesque peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Garda, making it a popular residence of international celebrities.

We return through France and to our overnight hotel.

We continue back to the Channel port for the ferry back to the UK where we retrace our footsteps home.
