This morning, we continue through Germany and cross into Poland this afternoon. Upon our arrival in Kraków, we'll check into our centrally located hotel with dinner included this evening.
Uncover the historic treasures of Kraków on today's guided city tour. Discover the magnificent Wawel Castle, once home to Polish kings, admire St Mary's Basilica and soak up the atmosphere of the UNESCO-listed Old Town. Later, we visit Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory - an immersive museum exploring Kraków under Nazi occupation and the experiences of the city's Jewish community during World War II, providing a powerful insight into this chapter of history. The remainder of your day is at leisure, with a chance to explore and sample local cuisine this evening.
Today, we travel to Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, a place where history weighs heavily in the air and the memory refuses to fade. What was once the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp now stands as a solemn testament to the countless lives lost here. Accompanied by an expert guide throughout, we tour Auschwitz I, where exhibits confront us with fragments of human lives, and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where the scale of the atrocity becomes starkly visible. This is not simply a tour, but an act of remembrance and leaves a lasting impression on all who visit. We later return to Kraków.
We depart Kraków this morning and begin with a visit to the UNESCO-listed Wieliczka Salt Mine, where we descend 64 metres underground to explore a fascinating network of tunnels, chambers and intricate salt carvings, including the stunning Chapel of St Kinga. After returning to the surface by miners' lift, we travel south through picturesque countryside to Zakopane nestled at the foot of the Tatra Mountains for a two-night stay.
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Zakopane, renowned for its wooden architecture and lively Krupówki Street, ideal for browsing shops, cafés and sampling local oscypek cheese. You may choose to take the funicular up Guba?ówka Hill for panoramic views (not included). Alternatively, why not join us for an optional guided excursion to Morskie Oko, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Tatra Mountains? We travel by coach for a visit to Palenica Bia?cza?ska, enjoying a traditional horse-drawn carriage ride before taking a scenic walk to the crystal-clear lake, one of Poland's most photographed natural landscapes. This evening, we'll round off the day with a memorable farewell folklore dinner show, featuring traditional highlander cuisine, music and dance - the perfect celebration of your time in southern Poland.
We begin our journey home today as we travel to our overnight hotel in Germany.
Enjoy the final leg of our journey home with an overnight stay and ferry crossing enroute.
