We drive north for a truly magical visit to Castle Howard - Experience the magnificent festive decorations as you journey through the House’s grand state rooms. Open fires, candle light and live music evoke all that we love about this special time of year, with the iconic 25 foot Christmas tree adorned with over 3000 baubles providing a breath-taking highlight in the Great Hall. From here we continue to Whitby where a warm welcome and a glass of mulled wine with a mince pie awaits on our arrival at the Royal Hotel, for a low-key Christmas break with your fellow like-minded travellers.

This morning we enjoy a scenic circular drive exploring the winter wonderland of the North York Moors, via Goathland familiar as 'Aidensfield' in Tv's Heartbeat and the vibrant market town of Pickering, where the tea rooms and shops have a gloriously vintage flavour and come alive with festive merriment around Christmas. We return to the hotel this afternoon for a festive cream tea.

Merry Christmas! Relax in the comfort of your hotel today - open presents, tuck into a traditional turkey dinner, and soak up the festive atmosphere. This afternoon you may like to take the opportunity to take a bracing stroll around the ancient fishing port famous for it’s connections with Bram Stoker and where he is said to have got his inspiration for Dracula. This evening, dinner will be followed by light entertainment.

Today we head to the majestic city of York, with it's rich history, famous Gothic Minster dominating the city as one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe, and The Shambles which are always worth a visit, with its over-hanging timber-framed houses and traditional shopfronts. Browse York’s many shops, from high street favourites to quirky and independent boutiques, maybe picking up an early sales bargain, along with excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants.

We begin our homeward journey after breakfast, calling at the Victorian seaside resort of Scarborough, straddled between two majestic bays and dominated by an impressive headland.
